English -In April our focus is on the stories of the legendary writer, Edgar Allan Poe. We will read and discuss four of his major works, learning more about him and his contributions to literature and the development of both the mystery and horror genres. In this process we will also be looking at how he uses common phobias to create his tales. Towards the end of April, students will be creating their own stories based on a modern fear.
Math - The students in pre-algebra classes will be using the algebra learned thus far to solve linear equations. Students will then graph lines using the y=mx+b form. Algebra classes are continuing to define exponential functions and will transition into geometry. Pre-algebra and Algebra classes will be working with Geometry to solve problems such as finding the area of a circle. CRA 8.4.3 will be used to assess student comprehension. More habit of mind problems will follow this spring.
Economics – In Economics we are turning our attention this month to saving accounts, the stock markets, mutual funds, credit, credit scores, and other economic concepts related to personal money management.
